Subject Description
The subject investigates the design and implementation of a strategic network plan. Topics to be covered include (1) The Need for Planning and the Planning Process: planning teams, strategic planning, the network plan, risk analysis and implementation planning. (2) The Design Process: design teams, requirements capture and specification, translating specifications into architectures, topographies and then design criteria (3) The Implementation Process: design traceability, evaluating plans and managing implementation teams.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. Apply the principles of strategic network planning and design.
2. Evaluate networks as a critical and strategic aspect to business success.
3. Devise design traceability and other forms of documentation to support communication with stakeholders, risk analysis, quality review and change control procedures;.
4. Synthesize people and technology management techniques to enable effective leadership of the design and implementation processes.
