Subject Description
Students will undertake research projects, under the supervision of academic staff members, on design and execution of field and/or laboratory experiments and the analysis and interpretation of these data. Intending students must consult with the Head of School prior to enrolment.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. Discuss and critically evaluate the role of scientific research in a discipline of the Biological Science;
2. Design and execute appropriate field and/or laboratory experiments and analyse and interpret these data;
3. Apply a range of laboratory or field techniques relevant to the project, and understanding of the principles underlying the techniques;
4. Demonstrate ability to critically read published literature, and synthesise knowledge and techniques from published sources;
5. Demonstrate ability to present experiments, results and interpretations clearly and concisely in written reports and as seminar presentations.

Generic Extra Information:
Students must attend the School's Seminar program. NOTE: The use of animals, animal tissues or animal-derived products (such as sera) is inherent and unavoidable, in order to achieve specific learning objectives. Students with conscientious objections to that use should not enrol in this subject.
