Subject Description
This subject provides an introduction to fundamental principles of design within the context of developing specific skills in visual design. It will address aspects of formal composition, typography, colour, image and layout. Students will have the opportunity to explore creative solutions to project briefs and in the process develop fundamental digital computer skills and design literacy.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. develop innovative and creative design solutions in response to a design brief
2. demonstrate an understanding of the foundation principles of typography, composition, colour, space and hierarchy in communication design
3. understand the relationships between the written word and its visual expression
4. articulate a deeper understanding of design across printed and new media platforms.
