Subject Description
This subject provides a workshop environment in which the knowledge acquired through previous theory and skills subjects is put into practice. Students are introduced to the core skills needed in 2nd year music studio through a series of guided composition and performance exercises that will build skills in harmony, notation, vocal and instrumental arrangement, as well as performance and improvisation. A range of musical styles is explored through technical and creative practice in a collaborative setting.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. communicate musical ideas effectively using notation and both written and oral communication
2. write idiomatically for voice and instruments in a variety of musical formats and styles
3. demonstrate competence in instrumental and/or vocal performance
4. apply learnt skills to practice-based studio work
5. respond to creative tasks with originality, flexibility and structural coherence
6. work effectively as members of a creative team
