Subject Description
In this subject, students will be offered the opportunity of practical engagement with the international community. Students will meet the requirements of the subject in one of four ways: by receiving specified credit for an approved subject or subjects while undertaking a session of study abroad; by enrolling in a short course (eg. language acquisition, cross cultural communication) at one of UoW's exchange partners; by undertaking an internship in an organisation or firm with international activities, clients or objectives or by undertaking a directed study of readings if the student is unable to participate in study abroad or do an internship for health, family or other reasons.

Faculty and Graduate Qualities Informed - Have a sound knowledge of an area of a disciplinary study or interdisciplinary area of study of International Studies with an understanding of its current issues, their contexts and developments over time. Independent Learners - Students will be reflecting on their experience or engaging is a guided reading subject. Both will require them to be independent learners. Problem Solvers Students will be applying their skills to a workplace environment (internship) or addressing issues in their host society or resolving a research problem on a specific topic. Effective Communicators - Articulate ideas and convey them effectively in written or spoken form using a variety of modes. Engage collaboratively with people in different settings. Recognise how culture can shape communication. Responsible - Understand how decisions can affect others, and make ethically informed choices. Appreciate and respect diversity. Act with integrity as part of local, national, regional, global and professional communities.
Subject Objectives:
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to: - reflect on, and give an account of, how different interpretative frameworks are played out in the real world; - discuss and debate how different experiences highlight different aspects of international studies; - reflect and discuss cultural differences between the home and host society; - analyse and discuss key issues of the society either lived in or being researched.
