Subject Description
The evolution of cloud and mobile computing has precipitated many changes in the ways organizations manage their security. This subject equips students with the knowledge and skills to address contemporary challenges in an organizationí security environment by referencing current techniques to foundational concepts in security theory and policy. These include: authentication and access protocols, network infrastructure security, intrusion detection and prevention, applications of cryptographic systems (such as Secure Socket Layer, Digital Signatures and VPN) and security policy development.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. Identify the contemporary challenges in information security for organizations from a technical and management perspective.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts such as software related threats, authentication, securing network infrastructure now and into the future, common security technologies such as IPsec, SSL and VPN and security policy development.
3. Apply fundamental technical skills relating to securing corporate network infrastructure, such as firewall configuration, VPN configuration.
4. Assess the adequacy of security policies and being aware of industry accepted practices and professional standards.
5. Formulate an organisational security policy.
