Subject Description
In this subject, students will draw together engineering principles covered in other subjects to develop context-appropriate solutions to engineering challenges. Students will work in teams undertaking investigation, concept development, and detailed design that demonstrates innovative and creative thinking. Students must consider the technical, social, economic and environmental aspects of a design problem to produce solutions that are likely to be workable in the real world.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. Appreciate the impact of engineering and engineered systems on societal, environmental and economic sustainability.
2. Consider interrelationships between social, environmental, economic and technical factors in engineering design.
3. Apply fundamental principles in engineering to the design of innovative, context-appropriate engineered solutions.
4. Demonstrate self directed learning and creative thinking to solving problems in engineering.
5. Present calculations, designs, research and critical analysis in a professional manner, both in writing and verbally.
6. Work as a productive member of a team, recognising roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of individuals in a team.
